National Meeting FAST FACTS
WHAT: The Alliance for Retired Americans invites retirees
to attend its first ever
National Meeting. The theme for the three-day meeting is "New Century,
Strong Voice, Real Action!"
WHEN: September 3-5, 2002
WHERE: Washington-Hilton Hotel, 1919 Connecticut Avenue, NW,
Washington, D. C.
WHO: Invited speakers include: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
(D-NY), House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-MO), AFL-CIO President John
J. Sweeney, political commentator James Carville, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger
and many more!
WHY: The Alliance plans a massive "Rally and Lobby Day" as
a show of support for the nation's two most important social insurance programs
-- Social Security and Medicare. A major focus of the speakers, workshops and
training sessions will be on ways to develop a successful strategy for winning
a Medicare prescription drug benefit while keeping the current fee-for-service
program intact for future generations of Americans, and protecting Social Security
from privatization. Other activities will include elections to choose the Alliance
President and Secretary-Treasurer; presentation of awards to persons who have
made outstanding contributions on behalf of older Americans; and a gala banquet.
